INMETRO is Brazil's national Accreditation bodies (Accreditation Body), is responsible for the Brazilian national standards. Brazil's most product standards based on IEC and ISO standards, the need to manufacturers in the design of products exported to Brazil should refer to the two sets of standard products. All products that meet the Brazilian standards and other technical requirements, must be combined with mandatory INMETRO logo and authorized third party certification body, to enter the Brazilian market.

INMETRO logo application can be divided into two categories, type of mandatory and voluntary categories, respectively, the two kinds of certificate issued by the certification body (CB). In addition, the government also provides some products need to take energy efficiency label (smile), such directly by the INMETRO certificate, certification bodies are not involved.

The certification process

INMETRO certification, the most widely used authentication mode is the certification of international general mode of 5, which includes the testing of the product itself and to the factory audit of quality management system. Domestic factories, traders can apply to the Brazilian government authorized certification body.


The compulsory certification INMETRO must, in accordance with INMETRO regulations are identified. And some products on the label on the product itself and packaging requirements are put forward.

According to INMETRO regulations, different products have different certification is valid. General for 3 years (e.g., steel) or 4 years (e.g., automobile products).

Matters needing attention

1, in Brazil, plug must accord with standard of NBR 14136, NBR NM 60884-1. On January 1, 2009, NEMA plug officially eliminated;

2, if it is other circuit breaker products issued by the laboratory of CB report, must add some tests (scheme) designated by the Brazil;

3, for small circuit breaker, authentication must be submitted before every electrical flow I2t graph;

4, to the electronic test report and CIG023 LCIE, can be directly INMETRO certificate;
